Over the past week, CISNOC Chef De Mission Michelle Paiti attended the CDM (Chef De Mission) OSEP course held in Nadi, Fiji and managed to get some comments.
Paiti stated that It was a heavy but great week of learning in Fiji
The workshop was focused on LA28 preparations, providing key insights into the requirements in preparing delegations with an athlete centred approach.
Chef de Missions from seven National Olympic Committees, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu and the Cook Islands participated in the four day workshop, a great opportunity to network with our Oceania leads who will be present at either the Youth Olympics or Pacific Games leading up to LA28,
ONOC'S OSEP Mentors shared important insights from experiences gained over the years to open participants minds to the extensive work involved to help prepare our delegations more effectively with an athlete centred approach
The workshop focused on three core components, Games Delivery Plan, Event Concept Plan and a Team Handbook, work had previously been done on a Games Delivery Plan by the team at CISNOC following a regional workshop attended earlier this year and this was an opportunity to understand area that could be fine tune in this document, along with developing an Event Concept Plan which details out all the specifics in more detail with deadlines, and the Team Handbook that provides all the key information for the delegation.
Along with the above we also completed the Chef de Mission training program modules 1-8 which covered, Roles & Responsibilies, Strategic Planning & Delegation Management, Accreditations, Logistics, Athlete Wellbeing, Protocol & Media, Risk Management, and Reporting, this for me was very beneficial in understanding and helping guide me with the right processes in preparation for any games events here at home, regionally or internationally.
The workshop helped provide a better understanding and reconfirmed preparations already underway along with the schedules we have initiated that we are on the right track and these preparations are key for a positive experience for our youth.
Truly grateful to CISNOC for providing the opportunity to attend the first Chef de Mission workshop in Oceania, although it was specific to LA28, it allowed me to understand the requirements for my role for the Youth Olympics and also challenged me to broaden my thinking and help prepare the process or LA28.
